I had been framing for my wife, Ekaterina Mortensen, and then at the start of 2008 decided I should do some paintings to put in the frames myself. Having told Katya for years that if ever I paint I would paint with a large brush on large canvases, I got to and started with small ones - miniatures. My earliest miniatures picked up a Highly Commended in the Royal National Canberra Art Show in 2008, followed by a Second Prize (miniatures) in 2009.
I had 2 works hung in the Royal Sydney Easter Show in 2009, one in 2010 plus works in the Royal Canberra Show. I have had works hanging at The Artists Shed in Queanbeyan, the TAP Gallery in Darlinghurst, Sydney and the Rotary Camberwell Exhibition in Melbourne.
I have been working mainly in oils and concentrating on seascapes and clouds. While at first painting mainly miniatures, I have gradually changed to larger paintings. Recently I have moved into charcoals.
In Jan 2010 I had tutoring from Grace Paleg, a well known pastel painter and created 'Liquid Amber'.
My 3 dimensional work, 'My Thoughts Set in Concrete' was accepted for exhibition in the Goulburn Regional Art Prize in 2010.
In 2009, I commenced studying a Fine Arts B.A. course through Open University, Curtin University in Perth, W.A. I have gained High Distinctions in each unit studied: Print-making and Conceptual Investigation; History of Visual Arts; Textiles and Conceptual Investigation; Visual Research: Drawing & Ideas; Sculpture and Conceptual Investigations.
